Winter Shore
12” x 9” oil on canvas, signed Pamela Turnbow
Winter Shore is an evocative plein air oil painting by Pamela Watson, created on a cold winter morning at Salamonie Lake in Indiana. Venturing out alone into a remote and icy landscape, Pamela faced not only the solitude of the season but also a personal phobia: cold, dark water. That tension adds a quiet intensity to this atmospheric piece.
The composition reveals a shoreline lined with bare winter trees. Cool blues define the still, icy water, while purples and deep shadows give form to the brooding trees in the foreground. In contrast, the distant trees catch soft winter sunlight, their lighter tones offering a sense of space and fragile hope.
With expressive brushwork and a restrained palette, Inter Shore captures both the physical landscape and the emotional terrain of facing fear with courage and creativity.
