Wilkins Covered Bridge – #22 in Series
7.5” x 5.5” acrylic on watercolor paper, signed Pamela Watson (2019)
Wilkins Covered Bridge is the 22nd painting in Pamela S. Watson’s extensive series documenting the covered bridges of Indiana. Created in acrylic on watercolor paper, this piece captures the peaceful stillness of an early morning drive down the winding county roads near Turkey Run—where quiet discovery often rewards the curious traveler.
This red-sided bridge with its classic white entrances emerges gently into view from the left side of the composition, inviting the viewer to follow the curve of the road into its wooden passage. Just outside the entrance, a small yellow highway sign adds a touch of realism, grounding the scene in the rural landscape of Parke County. A sliver of golden sky at the top of the painting hints at morning light breaking through, casting a soft warmth over the bridge.
Pamela, an MFA-trained artist and native of central Indiana, is dedicated to preserving the charm and cultural significance of these disappearing structures. Her covered bridge series is part of a larger book and research project, combining personal memory with historical documentation.
Wilkins Covered Bridge – #22 in Series is both a portrait of place and a reflection of the artist’s deep connection to Indiana’s countryside—a quiet invitation to slow down and appreciate the history, craftsmanship, and serenity found off the beaten path.
