Description
St. John’s in March
Original Watercolor & Ink | 8.5” x 11.5” | Signed by Pamela Turnbow
Painted en plein air on a brisk March day in 2025, St. John’s in March captures the quiet majesty of St. John’s Church in Western Run, Maryland. Created with watercolor and ink during an outing with the Baltimore Art Club, this piece is one of three completed on-site that spring — a season just beginning to stir, with light growing stronger and the trees still etched bare against the sky.
The lacy, intertwining branches in the foreground lend the piece a delicately gothic atmosphere, while the crisp architecture of the church stands in contrast to the natural tangle around it. The fine ink lines and translucent washes bring a sense of depth and quiet reverence to the scene.
A thoughtful addition to any collection, St. John’s in March speaks to the beauty of transition — between seasons, light, and stillness.
