Waiting Patiently
5.5” x 5.5” graphite on paper, signed Pamela Watson (2021)

Waiting Patiently is a quietly powerful drawing from Pamela Watson’s Pandemic series. Rendered in delicate graphite, it features a horse tethered to a fence line at Cheyenne Frontier Days in Wyoming, calmly waiting its turn to be ridden. The animal’s posture—still, composed, and watchful—captures a moment of quiet anticipation.

Although drawn from a pre-pandemic memory, the image took on new significance during 2021. For the artist, the tethered horse became a symbol of how so many of us waited—grounded in place, doing our best to be patient while the world around us slowly moved toward healing. The piece reflects that shared experience of stillness, uncertainty, and hope.

Even as headlines move on, Waiting Patiently continues to speak to the enduring resilience of those waiting for systems to shift and life to find balance again. With its soft textures and thoughtful composition, this small-format drawing offers a moment of calm reflection and quiet strength.
