Description
Three Geese, Hamilton Estuary
Acrylic on canvas, 20″ × 16″
This original acrylic painting captures a quiet, fleeting moment along an estuary path in Hamilton, Ontario. Three geese occupy the shaded edge of the scene, each absorbed in its own small world. One rests at the center of the composition, settled calmly beside the path. Another appears only partially—just a curve of neck and head entering from the left—while the third forages with its back turned, disappearing into dense summer foliage.
Dappled light filters through the leaves, hinting at the heat of the day, while the birds remain mostly in shade—a pause, a refuge, a moment of stillness. The composition invites the viewer to slow down and notice what is often overlooked: the quiet choreography of wildlife coexisting at the margins of human paths.
Painted from a reference photograph taken in Hamilton, Ontario, this work also carries a subtle question beneath its surface. With increasingly harsh winters in the north, one can’t help but wonder where these birds travel, and whether some now find seasonal refuge farther south, perhaps along the Chesapeake Bay.
This painting is well suited for collectors who are drawn to wildlife, wetlands, and contemplative landscapes. It offers visual calm while quietly reflecting on movement, habitat, and the shared spaces between humans and the natural world.
