Sheltered Light
14” x 10” • Watercolor on Paper • Pamela Watson
Sheltered Light offers a more intimate, grounded view of the White River Lighthouse near Whitehall, Michigan. Painted in studio using reference materials from a plein air lighthouse event along Lake Michigan’s shoreline, this watercolor captures the lighthouse nestled quietly among trees—partially hidden, yet unmistakably steadfast.
Rendered in rich earthy reds and greens, the composition shifts the viewer’s perspective from the expected to the quietly observed. The lighthouse and surrounding buildings peek out from behind the foliage, as if standing watch just beyond the tree line. This thoughtful approach brings a sense of discovery and quiet reverence to the historic structure.
Rooted in memory and place, Sheltered Light is a celebration of the quiet strength found in landscapes where nature and history coexist in harmony.
