“Shade by the Cove” – 11″ x 8″ watercolor on paper

Painted on location at Rocky Point Park near Essex, Maryland, this plein air watercolor captures a peaceful moment along the edge of Hawk Cove. On a sunny day painting with fellow members of the Mid-Atlantic Plein Air Painters Association, the artist found shelter beneath a graceful tree whose broad trunk and leafy canopy became the subject of the piece. Warm browns define the tree’s bark, while the soft greens of the foliage and landscape echo the calm of the day. A few large rocks rest at the tree’s base, anchoring the scene, and the inlet’s gentle waters shimmer in pale blue behind them. Though distant homes peek through the horizon, the focus remains on the quiet strength of the tree and the serenity of its shaded perch by the cove.
