Racing the Wind
22” x 16” • Watercolor on Paper
Painted from reference photos taken during a plein air event with the Indiana Plein Air Painters Association (IPAPA), Racing the Light captures the exhilarating movement and atmosphere of a sailboat race on Lake Wawasee, Indiana. The artist translates the energy of the day into a luminous composition filled with motion, light, and wind.
The watercolor features two sailboats cutting through the lake, their sails billowing with momentum. Touches of green in the white sails glow against the cool tones of purple that dominate both water and sky. Sparkles of light dance across the surface of the lake, evoking the crisp brilliance of sunlit waves, while the sweeping forms of the sails make you feel the wind pushing them forward.
This 22” x 16” painting is a celebration of summer light and movement, ideal for collectors who are drawn to nautical themes, expressive watercolors, or paintings that capture fleeting moments in nature with elegance and vitality.
