Inspired by quiet walks along the Platte River near Greeley, Colorado, Platte River Sky captures the vastness and drama of the region’s open landscapes. A towering bank of clouds dominates the upper portion of the composition, rendered in soft watercolor tones and delicate ink lines, set against a deep blue sky. Below, a warm brown plain stretches across the painting, anchoring a small cluster of trees near the center of the horizon. The wide skies of Colorado were a striking contrast to the artist’s earlier homes—and became a source of awe and reflection during her time there. This piece evokes the stillness, solitude, and grandeur of the high plains.
