Description
North of Yellowstone
11” x 14” oil on canvas, signed Pamela Watson
North of Yellowstone was painted en plein air just north of Yellowstone National Park during the artist’s first visit to the region in 2008—a trip that left Pamela Watson awestruck by the raw beauty and scale of the western landscape. This 11” x 14” oil on canvas captures that sense of wonder in a study that feels both expansive and intimate.
The composition opens with a green meadow scattered with boulders, anchoring the foreground with texture and solidity. Just beyond, a line of pine trees stretches across the scene, with a small break that draws the viewer’s eye deeper into the layered vista. Mountain ranges rise beyond the trees, progressing from dark blue-green foothills to distant purple peaks touched with lingering snow—despite the heat of the August sun.
The sky overhead is a moody wash of purples and soft blues, hinting at an approaching afternoon storm and lending an emotional undercurrent to the scene.
A testament to the power of place and first impressions, North of Yellowstone is perfect for collectors who appreciate plein air landscapes, majestic mountain views, and the atmospheric shifts of high-altitude light.
