Dunbar Covered Bridge – #17 in Series
7.5” x 5.75” acrylic on watercolor paper, signed Pamela Watson (2019)

Dunbar Covered Bridge is the 17th painting in Pamela S. Watson’s ongoing series celebrating the covered bridges of Indiana. Painted in acrylic on watercolor paper, this distant view captures the small red structure bathed in sunlight, nestled among rolling fields and framed by layers of green trees beneath a cloudless, bright blue sky.

Pamela, who grew up in central Indiana, remembers passing this bridge often on visits to her grandparents. Returning to the region later in life, she found that tracking down and painting these bridges became a meaningful way to reconnect with the landscapes of her childhood. This painting reflects that journey—not just a study of a structure, but a return to memory.

Unlike many of Indiana’s covered bridges, which are hidden down winding backroads, Dunbar Covered Bridge stands openly visible from a distance. That sense of openness, paired with the warmth of a sunny day, brings a feeling of familiarity and peace to the work.

Part of a larger documentation and book project, Dunbar Covered Bridge – #17 in Series is a quiet celebration of heritage, place, and personal history—honoring the iconic rural landmarks that continue to connect past and present.
