Grace in the Canyon captures the iconic grandeur of the Lower Falls in Yellowstone National Park, rendered in soft, sun-washed tones. Though the artist has visited this breathtaking site multiple times, this particular painting was created in preparation for an upcoming plein air trip to Hamilton, Ontario—where she planned to paint waterfalls on location. Using her own reference photos, she explored the process and structure in studio before taking her brush to new terrain.

In this traditional-style watercolor, the towering height of the waterfall and the steep rocky cliffs are delicately suggested with loose washes and careful layering. The colors are gentle and sun-faded, evoking the warmth of a high summer day. The water gracefully flows down the valley, drawing the viewer’s eye into the expansive space and inviting them to travel with it.
