Clifty Falls Memory
5.5″ x 8″ gouache on paper
Original painting by Pamela Watson
Clifty Falls Study captures the quiet power and natural beauty of one of Indiana’s beloved waterfalls, nestled within Clifty Falls State Park near Madison. Painted in rich greens and earthy gray-brown, this intimate gouache piece reflects the artist’s personal connection to the landscape—Clifty Falls was a place of solace and adventure during her college years at nearby Hanover. Created as a warm-up for an upcoming painting trip to Hamilton, Ontario—famed for its many waterfalls—this piece served as both technical practice and emotional grounding. The familiar cascade at Clifty Falls allowed Pamela to explore movement, texture, and depth, while also reconnecting with a cherished landscape. The result is a richly layered, atmospheric study that honors the meditative rhythm of falling water and the timeless comfort of returning to a place that shaped her.
