Portland Head Lighthouse: Cape Elizabeth, Maine
7.5” x 5.57” • Watercolor on Paper • Signed Pamela Turnbow
Painted on location in 2002, Portland Head Lighthouse: Cape Elizabeth, Maine captures a breathtaking coastal sunset with bold, saturated watercolor tones. This original 7.5” x 5.57” painting was created during a deeply personal journey—one that speaks to the resilience and dedication of both the artist and the moment itself.
Pamela flew to Maine on a one-way ticket just a year after 9/11 to help her father and stepmother return to Indiana after a medical emergency. Transporting art supplies to Maine under heightened airport security was a challenge—especially with the President visiting nearby that weekend. But the effort was worth it: the evening light at the lighthouse was unforgettable.
In this piece, the iconic red-roofed keeper’s house stands warmly in the foreground, with the white tower of Portland Head Lighthouse rising behind it. A small sliver of ocean anchors the scene, while a glowing sunset bathes everything in luminous color.
