Timber Creek Campground
6” x 4” Watercolor and Ink on Paper | July 2014

Painted en plein air in the heart of the Rockies, Timber Creek Campground reflects a moment of wild beauty during an unforgettable road trip. Created with watercolor and ink, this 6” x 4” piece features a row of pine trees against softly painted mountain silhouettes, awash in cool greens and blues that evoke the crisp mountain air.

The artist camped here for a night while test-driving an aging K Car she was helping return to Indiana from Colorado. Despite a freezing, restless night in the back of the car, the sweeping view—and a visit from nearby elk—made it a memory worth capturing. The car, affectionately referred to as “the old girl,” powered past newer vehicles on the open road, proving her strength across the miles.

This small painting is a quiet celebration of resilience, nature, and unexpected joy found in a rugged landscape.
