Bambi
5” x 5” graphite on paper, signed Pamela Watson (2021)
Bambi is a deeply emotional piece from Pamela Watson’s Pandemic Series—an intimate graphite drawing created as a way to process the anxiety and grief brought on by the global crisis. Started in March 2020, the series became both a meditative practice and a form of quiet witness to the collective sorrow unfolding around the world.
In Bambi, a small, frail fawn stands alone, rendered with delicate lines and gentle shading. The image evokes vulnerability and loss, symbolizing the many individuals—especially children—who lost parents to COVID-19. Though simple in scale, the drawing carries profound emotional weight, capturing the loneliness and confusion left in the wake of unimaginable loss.
Through this quietly powerful work, Pamela offers a space for reflection, remembrance, and empathy. Bambi is not just a portrait of a fawn—it’s a tribute to resilience, a recognition of grief, and a visual prayer for those left behind.
