Description
Feathered Bathers – 30″ x 24″ Acrylic on Canvas
This 30″ x 24″ acrylic painting was inspired by a sunny June day in Hamilton, Ontario, when I painted in an estuary under a shade tree. A lively group of geese and three serene swans kept me company, at one point surrounding my easel as I observed their playful interactions along the riverbank and in the water. Their movements reminded me of Georges Pierre Seurat’s Bathers at Asnières, and I wanted to capture that sense of rhythm, leisure, and summer delight.
Using a video reference from that day, I rearranged the birds to convey the feeling of the moment. In the foreground, a honking goose interrupts the peace — a playful nod to the small disruptions that can intrude on tranquil moments.
Rich greens and bright blues evoke the warmth of an early summer day, while the “bathers” in feathers invite viewers to pause, smile, and reflect.
