Description
By the Pond, Early April
8.5” x 11” gouache on paper
Original painting, signed Pamela Watson
By the Pond, Early April captures the quiet stirrings of spring in New Harmony, Indiana—one of the artist’s most beloved places. Created during the 2023 plein air event, this piece reflects a long-standing personal tradition of painting in New Harmony, where the artist has returned again and again over the course of 25 years. On this particular trip, she was joined by two of her daughters and her grandsons, adding an extra layer of warmth and memory to the experience.
The painting features a tree with gracefully curved branches, its new leaves just beginning to unfurl beside the stillness of a pond. Soft washes of green signal the first breath of spring, while the earthy tones in the grass and trees offer a grounded sense of place. Rendered in gouache with a delicate yet expressive touch, the composition radiates quiet energy and connection—between seasons, generations, and landscape.
Ideal for collectors drawn to plein air painting, seasonal transitions, and artwork grounded in both beauty and personal history.
