Holding Through the Storm
11.5” x 8.5” watercolor and ink on paper
Original painting, signed Pamela Watson
Drawn from reference photos taken on New Year’s Day 2024, Holding Through the Storm is one of several studio paintings the artist created to explore the enduring presence of the Holland, Michigan lighthouse. In this composition, the lighthouse stands small but resolute against a vast, moody sky—just as it has weathered countless storms on the shores of Lake Michigan.
Dark blues and purples fill the cloud-laden sky, capturing the weight and drama of a stormy winter morning. Yet just above the horizon, which rests low in the composition, a golden sliver of sunrise begins to break through—offering a glimpse of hope and light. The lighthouse itself catches the glow on its right side, a quiet symbol of resilience and endurance.
With expressive ink lines and soft watercolor washes, this piece speaks to the balance of fragility and strength, solitude and steadfastness. Ideal for collectors who appreciate atmospheric coastal scenes, Great Lakes history, or artwork that captures the power of place and weather.
