Jackson Covered Bridge – #27 in Series
8.5” x 5.5” acrylic on watercolor paper, signed Pamela Watson (2019)
Jackson Covered Bridge is the 27th painting in Pamela S. Watson’s expansive series documenting Indiana’s remaining covered bridges. Painted in acrylic on watercolor paper, this piece captures the striking red-trimmed white bridge of Putnam County, standing proudly against the glow of an early morning sky.
Unlike many of the hidden, rural bridges in the series, Jackson Covered Bridge is more accessible—yet still offers its own quiet charm. Pamela chose a low perspective for this composition, positioning the viewer at the edge of the road. A sliver of asphalt and a weathered guard rail guide the eye through thick vegetation toward the bridge, drawing you gently into the scene.
The warm orange sky hints at the early hour of the artist’s visit, casting a soft light over the scene and adding warmth to the bold red and white contrast of the bridge’s structure. The result is both grounded and luminous—a moment in time, beautifully observed.
As part of her larger project to document and preserve Indiana’s historic covered bridges through art, Jackson Covered Bridge stands as a vivid tribute to a piece of the state’s rural heritage, inviting viewers to slow down, look closer, and appreciate the quiet beauty of these enduring landmarks.
