Reaching Across the River
8” x 10” • Oil on Canvas • Pamela Watson
Painted en plein air at Gunpowder Falls State Park Headquarters in Kingsville, Maryland, Reaching Across the River marks Pamela Watson’s first outing with the Mid-Atlantic Plein Air Painters Association. Created over two peaceful mornings, the experience offered a welcome moment of stillness and connection with nature.
This impressionistic landscape captures a tender visual dialogue between two trees—one ablaze in vibrant red foliage on the left bank, and another arching over from the right, its bare, curving branches stretching toward its colorful companion. Below, the river murmurs over rocks, its gentle cascade providing both soundtrack and serenity as the artist worked beside its edge.
Loosely painted with expressive brushwork and rich autumnal tones, Reaching Across the River evokes the fleeting beauty of fall and the quiet connections found in nature—both seen and felt.
