Painted en plein air in early spring 2025 with the Baltimore Art Club, Spring Beyond the Steeple captures the joyful energy of a perfect day in Maryland’s countryside. One of three paintings created by Pamela Watson at the historic St. John’s Church site, this piece turns its gaze away from the steeple and toward the neighboring farmland—where rolling hills stretch into the distance, alive with color and light.

The sky, painted in vibrant blues with soft white clouds, sets the tone for a landscape bursting with the renewal of spring. Loose, expressive brushwork and bold greens mirror the season’s momentum, while the ink work adds a quiet rhythm to the composition.
